As a Product Development Manager at MakerBot, I supported the design, manufacturing, and support of wifi-enabled leading-edge desktop 3d printers.

2013-2015 was the peak of the 3d printing hype curve: grandma’s going to print IKEA parts at home, “can you 3d print guns?” asked ad nauseum. I was part of the Product team, supporting the design and manufacturing in Brooklyn.

I understand additive manufacturing at a deep level. From slicing 3d models for printing, whether Fused Deposition Modeling / Fused Filament Fabrication, Digital Light Projection, or Selective Laser Sintering, to assembling a unit that will run an extruder in a perfect plane, to the user experience, to exploring a spool replacement program, I’ve just about done it all when it comes to 3d printing.

I left the additive manufacturing world to focus full-time on sustainability, but my 2.5 years at MakerBot were very formative, giving me experience in new product introduction, quality management, and product management.

Today, I look pretty cool when I tell people “our office had more than one 3d printer per person. It was great.”
